The association was founded in 1982 with the intention to encourage traffic and service of veteran trains and preserve primarily vehicles and other objects from the Iron Ore Line, which often was the pioneer when it comes to Swedish railway.
Malmbanans Vänner(the Iron Ore Line's Friends) is a nonprofit organization based in Luleå which conducts Norrbottens Järnvägsmuseum, one of the country's largest railway museums with an extensive collection of vehicles and objects.
We operate not only a large railway museum, we also arrange trips with the veteran trains. Sometimes with steam locomotives, other times with electricity or diesel powered locomotives tugging the train.
As a member of the association you will receive the member magazine Karven four times a year. You also get preferential rates at the association's travel arrangements. In addition to the annual meeting and member meetings every year we have a number of member evenings with lectures, video and movie viewing in our museum in Karlsvik. Sometimes we also arrange trips to rail facilities.
We welcome all who wish to support the association to become a member and want to actively participate in the business. In the association there is plenty of tasks that can fit those who want to spend a couple of hours a week for socializing around a common cause.
